Angela Lewis, Lung Transplant Recipient, 2009

Exactly one year after returning home from a bilateral lung transplant, Angela did something she never thought she would be able to do: climb to the summit of Enchanted Rock. “It was incredibly exciting, and I was crying and catching my breath all at once!” Angela had been struggling with Bronchiolitis Obliterans, which causes inflammation and scarring in the airways of the lungs. “Life moves in slow motion when you’re on oxygen, but I never lost faith.” Ever since that first climb, Enchanted Rock holds a special place in Angela’s life, and she revisits it often. “The summit is incredibly symbolic for me and a beautiful, peaceful way to celebrate my new life.”
