“The best part was NO OXYGEN!”

Dot Delarosa, Lung Transplant Recipient, 2010

Dot Delarosa, Lung Transplant Recipient, 2010

“It all started with a cough and extreme tightness in my chest.” In 2008, Dot was told that she was only breathing at 25% capacity, and without a transplant she had two to five years to live. She relied on her oxygen tank to perform simple tasks like walking, eating, and bathing. But on June 7, 2010, she received a second chance. “The best part was NO OXYGEN!” Since her transplant, Dot has been very active as an advocate for organ donation, including delivering the invocation at the Texas State Capital. She’s even out doing things she never could before. “I walk about two miles a day. I’m working on three! And I play tennis at least twice a week!” She is so thankful for a second chance. “I thank God every night that I am able to sleep in my own bed, in my own house, with my own air!”
