“I could not get enough oxygen.”

Terry Teague, Bilateral Lung Transplant Recipient, 2010

Terry was born with Cystic Fibrosis, but he never let it rule his life. A few years ago, however, he was in and out of the hospital more and more frequently as the disease progressed. “I could not get enough oxygen.” Terry was in the ICU on a ventilator when, on December 8, 2010, he received a bilateral lung transplant. He spent the next five months in the hospital and rehab. His wife, Nancy, said, “The doctors and nurses at University Transplant Center never gave up on Terry, and Terry never gave up on himself. The first time he walked, the nurses cheered!” Now nothing slows him down. Terry and Nancy have been traveling around the country, even taking a hot air balloon ride in Arizona. Terry stays active by participating in Civil War re-enactments and travels frequently. Nancy recently had double knee-replacement surgery. “I had to get new knees to keep up with his new lungs!”
